The Kingdom of Tycho is a small country located in the southern highlands of the Earth’s Moon. It was founded on the 24th February 2001 by Declan Stanley, who believes that the only future for mankind, and perhaps all life, is to colonise outer space.
Many people believe that through scientific exploration, government programs and commercial endeavours mankind will eventually learn to live and work in space. That companies will found outposts to mine resources and manufacture products and services for sale back on Earth. That these outposts will grow to become settlements and these settlements grow into towns and cities, and that as the population increases so to will the desire of the extraterrestrial population for autonomy and full independence from Earthly powers.
Declan began to see that something other than the existing programs and endeavours would be needed in order to found extraterrestrial colonies. While scientific exploration and commercial development of space resources are essential to the existence of extraterrestrial colonies, extraterrestrial colonies are not essential to scientific exploration or commercial development of outer space.
Many people assert that robotic probes can explore more cheaply than manned missions and that robots and remotely operated equipment can mine and refine ore and manufacture products with out the need to send humans. And even where people would be sent to operate machinery, the purposed operations would look more like antarctic research stations or offshore oil drilling platforms than small towns or villages. How many antarctic research stations or offshore oil platforms have homes and schools and communities where people live and raise families?
Declan wants to build villages, towns and cities, communities where people can go to start new lives for themselves. Communities that will unite as one nation that can grow and move forward shaping its own destiny. Shaping the destiny of mankind among the stars.
The Kingdom of Tycho is one step on this epic journey into mankind’s future.
